Your host’s Bob and Mary Redpath will make every endeavour to ensure your time spent on our farm is a memorable & enjoyable experience. Wairata Station is a vast peaceful mountainous wilderness within reach of New Zealand’s main centre, Auckland. Wairata Station is a large hill country farm ranging from lush river flats up to towering open peaks. The station runs over 400 head of Angus cattle and 1500 Perendale sheep. Wairata Station is surrounded by absolutely stunning native forests. We have numerous farm and bush tracks for you to explore. We have walks to suit most fitness levels. The pictures only just touch upon the beauty that is Wairata. One walk is across our farm for an hour, then ½ hour through some of the most untouched spectacularly beautiful stretches of native forest left in the North Island to reach the boundary of state forest. Another track leads you 2,200ft above sea level where we have a small natural lake where dragonflies and frogs abound, totally surrounded by native trees. This is well worth venturing to as there are also numerous tracks to follow through native bush. Beautiful stands of Rimu, Matai, Miro, Beech, Tawa, Rewarewa and majestic Totara trees. Birdwatchers may well spot: Tui, Bellbirds, Pheasants, Fantails, Tomtits, Falcons, Robins, Kereru, Whiteheads and Rifleman and more! You may be lucky enough to spot a rare Blue Mountain Duck (the Whio) in one of the tributary streams that flow into the Waioeka River.
