Directions to Wairata Station From Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, Whakatane or Opotiki. Once you arrive in Opotiki, head towards Gisborne. This will take you into the Waioeka Gorge. We are situated 42 kms from Opotiki. Once you start getting close look out for a 35km corner. It is the only 35km corner between Opotiki and Wairata. Immediately after the corner you will start to go down a little hill. At the bottom of the hill is Wairata. There is a road on your right, Wairata Rd, that goes across a small bridge. It is important that you make sure you are at Wairata. As there is a road on your right with a small bridge closer to Opotiki, this is called Waiata. Note the difference in the spelling. However if you have been past the 35km corner you are fine. Once you have turned up Wairata Rd, follow it up about 2km and Wairata Station is on your left through the white gateway.
From Wellington, Napier or Gisborne. Once you arrive in Gisborne, head towards Opotiki. This will take you through Matawai and into the Waioeka Gorge. We are a little under 100 kms from Gisborne.
